LimaLeonard Frederick Thompson, 90, died at 9:10 a.m. May 12, 2011, at St. Rita's Medical Center.He was born Jan. 4, 1921, in Waynesfield to Clarence and Esta Hattery Thompson, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 30, 1947, he married Jean McConehey, who died Dec. 1, 2001.Mr. Thompson was a member of First Evangelical and Reformed Church. He was self-employed as a painter, doing indoor and outdoor painting. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the engineers in the South Pacific. He was an avid supporter of the Lima Rescue Mission, attended the Senior Citizens and served lunch at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. He enjoyed playing shuffle board. Survivors include a brother, Robert (Marge) Thompson, of Powell; two sisters, Hazel Thompson Smith and Rose Mary Thompson Woods; six nieces, Darene (Gordon) Coates, Maxine (Ralph) Butturuff, Mary Jane Veitch, Pam Chaffin, Lori Johnson and Sue Musto; and five nephews, John (Rita) Bowers, Jack (Jackie) Woods II, Jeffery Thompson, Steve (Cathie) Thompson and Barry Flack.He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Thompson; two sisters, Ruby Thompson Bowers and Clarine Thompson Crawford; three nieces, Karen Hitchcock, Michelle Parker and Marsha Flack; and three nephews, Jack Thompson, James Woods and Robert Flack.Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Edward Rinehart will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Uniopolis.
