LIMA — Residents in the Lima area will have a chance to select a local charity that will receive $10,000 in free advertising through a program sponsored by Civitas Media and The Union Bank Co.

The giveaway, being called MyOwn Community Service Partner Campaign, is being held in conjunction with the new community website — MyOwnLima.com — that was launched by the The Lima News in November. Civitas Media is the parent company of The Lima News.

“We’re proud to be part of the Lima community and this is one of the ways we want to show our gratitude,” said Michael Bush, CEO of Civitas Media. “The $10,000 in free advertising will help a local charity deliver its message online or in print, however it chooses. The new website will bolster our already robust print and online products.”

Curtis Shepherd, senior vice president of The Union Bank Co., sees the website as a strong asset for the community. He said the $10,000 giveaway provides a great outlet for a local charity to deliver its message. Shepherd also said he likes the fact that the new website will allow community organizations, schools, health care providers and others to post information about community events directly to the website free of charge.

“We are very excited about partnering with The Lima News and sponsoring the MyOwn Community Service Partner Campaign,” Shepherd said. “We have a wonderful community that is supported by so many outstanding local charities and service organizations. As a community bank, The Union Bank is committed to support the efforts of these community service organizations. I encourage you to nominate your favorite nonprofit organization.”

Local residents will select the winning charity, said James Shine, publisher of the The Lima News. That will happen in a two-fold process.

He said charitable organizations will have until Dec. 20 to submit their nomination forms, which can be found online at MyOwnLima.com. At the conclusion of the nomination period, residents will vote for their favorite charities. The top five vote-getters will then advance to a second round of voting to determine the winners. Articles will be published in the newspaper announcing the top five nominees as well as the winner.

The first round of voting will take place on MyOwnLima.com from Jan. 5 through Jan. 24. There will be one vote per person.
