LIMA — You’ve heard of pets looking like their owners? How about pets looking like St. Valentine’s Day card boxes?

The Humane Society of Allen County is holding a new contest for creative pet fans. People can make a valentine card box made to look like a shelter pet (or alumni). Contestants are encouraged to unleash their creative side and create a box for valentine cards to look like their favorite shelter pet dog or cat or former shelter pet.

Contestants will design boxes and submit them with their contact information and a photo of the pet the box is designed to look like for judging. All boxes are due to the shelter by 2 p.m. Monday.

The winners will be announced at 2 p.m. Feb 12. First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded to the designer and the featured pet.

Boxes will be on display at the shelter until Feb. 15. Photos can be downloaded from the Humane Society’s website, http://hsoac.org or contestants may visit the shelter during adoption hours and take a photo.

Shelter hours are noon to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays and 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays at 3606 Elida Road.
