ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA — Oscar Jones celebrated his 90th birthday with a family party in July 2014 while home in Lima for his great-grandson’s wedding. He also planned to celebrate with family and friends in Florida on Dec. 27, 2014.
He was born Dec. 27, 1924, to Lyman and Sophia Stone Jones in Flat Gap, Kentucky.
On Sept. 5, 1947, in Lima, he married Esther Fogt. He moved here after serving in the Army during World War II. His wife died Aug. 26, 1992.
In 1993, he moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, and married Patricia Everhardt on Oct. 15, 1994. His second wife died Aug. 17, 2013.
He has two daughters, Joyce (Brad) Buetner, and Carol (Jeff) Jones, of Elida; a brother, Clyde (Karen) Jones, of Texas; a sister, Jessie Griffith, of Lima; and a stepdaughter, Stephanie Dodds, of Treasure Island, Florida. He has three grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
A sister, Opal Slone, and a stepson, Kevin Everhardt, are deceased.
Jones was employed by Superior Coach for 35 years, General Dynamics for 10 years and Mid Bus for two years.
