LIMA — Lima schools sold about two acres to Kroger this month.
The land, at 515 W. Elm St., was the location of the former Faurot Elementary School, which was torn down in 2005. The location, in a residential area, is now a grassy lot with a slight hill.
The land has “been vacant for quite some time,” said schools treasurer Ryan Stechschulte. “The district had no need for the property.”
It sold for about $25,000 on Dec. 15, Stechschulte said.
The money will go into the district’s general operating fund, he said.
He didn’t know what Kroger’s plans for the land were.
Kroger does not have a store in Lima, but it does operate a Ruler Foods on Elida Road. It offers discount groceries in the Kroger bargain brands and the bag-your-own format to reduce costs.
In the region, there are Kroger stores in St. Marys and Kenton. Kroger last had a presence in Lima decades ago.
