CELINA — The Lima Locos continued rolling after the All-Star break.
The Locos posted their 10th win out of 11 games with a 6-3 victory over Grand Lake on Thursday at Montgomery Field.
The Locos are 20-11 and stand in first place in the Great Lakes Collegiate League. Grand Lake is 15-17. The Locos moved two games in front of second-place Cincinnati (19-14), which lost to Lake Erie, 19-17.
Locos starter right-hander Robby Howell (Central Florida) picked up the win to even his record at 2-2. Howell went seven innings and gave up three runs, two earned, on eight hits. He struck out nine and walked two. Trevor Guthrie came in and notched the final out to pick up his second save.
The Locos took the lead to stay with a three-run third inning to make it 3-1. They added a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to push the lead to 6-1.
For the Locos, Dylan Ingram went 1 for 4 with two RBIs. Chase Puente and Matt Spruill both went 2 for 3.
Grand Lake took a 1-0 lead in the home first inning on an RBI single by Mackenzie Hampshire (Ashland/Elida). Hampshire went 1 for 4 with an RBI.
The Locos came back to score three runs in the third to pull out to a 3-1 lead. The first run came home by the way of a Mariners’ error. Ingram delivered a two-run double and the Locos had a 3-1 lead.
The Locos will meet Grand Lake at 7 p.m. tonight at Simmons Field.
