CINCINNATI — The Lima Locos seemed an unlikely team for the Cincinnati Steam to break a nine-game losing streak against, but that’s what the Steam did when it took a 7-2 win over the Locos on Monday night.
The Locos (23-12) went into the Great Lakes Collegiate League game having won 13 of their last 14 games and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. But that was the last time they could get a runner home.
Jonathan Herkins started the game with a walk and moved up on a single by Kyle Lewis. Dylan Ingram and Brett Carlson delivered run scoring singles.
But the rest of the night belonged to Cincinnati (20-17).
Derek Lance went 3 for 4 and drove in two runs for the Steam. Anthony Asalon was 2 for 4 and had two RBIs.
Locos starter Jake Steffens allowed eight hits, five runs and three earned runs in three innings on the mound.
Lima will play at the Hamilton Joes tonight.
