LIMA — Gas prices have dipped below $3 a gallon today at some gas stations, giving consumers a much-needed sigh of relief.

Consumers in Lima could find gas at prices below $3 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline at 20 different stations at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, according to OhioGasPrices.com. The lowest recorded price was $2.909, at the Sam’s Club on Greely Chapel Road, with $2.959 seen at the Shawnee Fuel Stop on West Breese Road, near Interstate 75.

Thursday’s mornings average price in Lima of $3.069 a gallon was the lowest this year. It’s also the lowest since since Dec. 20, 2013, when prices averaged $3.006 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.

“Great! Keep bringing the prices down!” wrote Darlene Tullis, of Lima, on The Lima News’ Facebook page.

Prices are still a far cry from the $2.914 a gallon average recorded on Dec. 20, 2012. It also leaves the $1.514 recorded back on Dec. 29, 2008, as a distant but pleasant memory for drivers.
