COLUMBUS GROVE - The holidays have been a little less cheery for residents along one Putnam County road whose homes have been the target of a burglar.
Sheriff Jim Beutler said three burglaries have been reported in the same area along Road Z near Columbus Grove. One homeowner had his residence hit twice - four days before Christmas and most recently on Saturday.
"The homeowner had a television stolen in the first break-in," Beutler said. "He replaced the television and the replacement was taken in the latest break-in."
Beutler said the area, about a mile and a half outside Columbus Grove, is a relatively quiet area for crime with few reports generated in the area.
The close proximity of the break-ins and the fact that one house was targeted twice has lead investigators to believe the perpetrator is nearby, Beutler said.
"We've never really had any problems out there," Beutler said. "The fact it was hit twice within a couple weeks means it's probably somebody close by."
The break-ins remain under investigation, he said.
