LIMA - A former deputy auditor for Allen County will spend 30 days at the Allen County Jail, a judge decided today.
Nichole Barker, 28, pleaded guilty April 1 to one count of dereliction of duty, a second-degree misdemeanor. The maximum sentence on that charge could have been 90 days in jail and a $750 fine.
Barker was accused of stealing more than $5,000 while employed by the Allen County Auditor's Office. Barker had been trusted to collect dog license fees, among other tasks.
While speaking during the hearing to Judge Richard Warren, Barker and her attorney each said she didn't do anything wrong. When Warren asked her why she took the money, Barker remained silent.
