COLUMBUS GROVE - Chad Ricker, the junior varsity girls basketball coach the last six years at Columbus Grove, was named Columbus Grove's head girls basketball coach at a Monday Board of Education meet.
Ricker will take over for Jerry Hoersten, who recently stepped down as athletic director and girls basketball coach.
Ricker is a 1995 Columbus Grove graduate and went on to graduate from Ohio State in 1999. He played baseball and golf at Columbus Grove.
He started his coaching career at Columbus Grove in 2002.
Columbus Grove advanced to the regionals in 2006 and 2007.
"I'm really excited to coach at the varsity level," Ricker said. "I hate to see Jerry step down. He did a lot of the hard work to bring the program from where we were. In the past eight, nine years, we were disappointed not to make the regionals and that's a big step.
"We want to do a lot of the same things we've done in the past. We want to press and run. We want to create a lot of offense off our press. We're going to be a fun team to watch."
Columbus Grove will have two starters and six lettermen returning.
