KENNETH R. SANDY, 76, died at 6:20 p.m. June 12, 2005, at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born Jan. 11, 1929, near Columbus Grove, to Floyd R. Sandy and Margaret E. Griffith Sandy-Foulkes, who preceded him in death. On June 19, 1948, he married Ruby A. VanDemark, who survives.

Mr. Sandy retired as a production foreman from Sylvania/Philips Electronic Components Group, Ottawa. He had also worked at the Columbus Grove and Cairo elevators and had been a driver for Magnum Auto Sales. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple, and its Master Builders Sunday school class. He had served on the Bath, Apollo and Allen County school boards, and was instrumental in the starting of Apollo School. He was a member of the Columbus Grove Lions Club. He was a 1947 graduate of Columbus Grove High School. He enjoyed agriculture. He was always a loving father and grandfather who was willing to help family and friends in any way he could.

Survivors also include four sons, Dr. J. Stephen (Christina) Sandy of Lima, Robert E. (Sonia) Sandy of Wanatah, Ind., James R. (Becky) Sandy of Whitehall, Mich., and Dr. Thomas E. (Jodi) Sandy of Defiance; two daughters, Cathy S. (Luis) Lugo of Annapolis, Md., and Diane M. (Bruce) Meffley of Dayton; two brothers, Edward (Ruth) Sandy and Glen (Verona) Sandy, both of Gomer; two sisters, Julia Luginbill of Columbus Grove and Jeannette Wood of Lima; and 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Kenneth Luginbill.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lima Baptist Temple. Pastors Ronald Cannon and Gary Hohman will officiate. Burial will be in Altstaetter Cemetery, Cairo.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove.
