VAN WERT - Members of United Steelworkers Local 524 and the management of Kongsberg Automotive met Thursday morning to discuss issues related to the plant's closing this summer.

The union has been locked out since April 2007 and recent discussions have included the possibility of some workers returning, on the company's terms, to fill the 60 remaining jobs at the plant until it closes.

Local vice president Judy Grubb said the union made a proposal for a severance package and is now waiting to hear back from the company. The details of the package are not being released, but it deals with vacation and benefits employees believe they are owed, Grubb said.
