DAVID ALLEN UHL, 69, of Gulf Shores, Ala., formerly of Lima, died May 21, 2005, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 30, 1935, in Lima to Joseph Stewart and Rosemary Mohler Uhl, who preceded him in death. He married Judith LeHew, who survives.
Mr. Uhl was the third generation owner of Mohler's Flowers by Uhl, Lima, from 1957 until his retirement in 1997, when he passed it on to the fourth generation, his son. He was a member of the Gulf Shores United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Lima Exchange Club, a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 and a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 21, all in Lima. He had been a member of the Ohio and Michigan state florist associations. He was an avid tennis player and won The Lima News Tennis Singles Tournament in 1991. He was a 1953 graduate of Lima South High School and attended The Ohio State University, where he studied horticulture.
Survivors also include a son, David Vincent (Gina) Uhl of Lima; a daughter, Deborah (Joe) Uhl-West of Frankfort, Ky.; a brother, Joseph Neil (Natasha) Uhl of Lafayette, Ind.; a sister, Dianne Elizabeth Uhl (Don) Wright of Lima; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; his former wife, Elaine Murphy Uhl of Lima; and two nieces and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Jo Uhl-Schmidt.
Services will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pine Rest Funeral Home, Foley, Ala. The Revs. Neil McDavid and Jody Hannah Kranz will officiate.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Lima.
