Helen M. Rhodes, 95, died at 4:55 p.m. Dec. 17, 2007, at Otterbein-Cridersville.
She was born Aug. 6, 1912, in Monon, Ind., to Leroy and Bessie Garwood DeVault, who preceded her in death. On July 24, 1930, she married Vernon Dale Rhodes, who died July 31, 2001. They were married for 71 years.
Mrs. Rhodes was a member of Westview United Methodist Church. She had been a member of the American Grange. She enjoyed farming and farm animals. She was a 1930 graduate of Elida High School. She was a great mother who loved her family, baking and especially reading, having always wanted to be a librarian. She grew up in Ada.
Survivors include a son, Roger (Linda) Rhodes, of Lima; two daughters, Roslyn (Gene) Keller, of Lima, and Joan (Don) Klingler, of Harrod; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Rhodes, of Lafayette; and 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Rhodes; an infant daughter, Louise Rhodes; a brother, Harry DeVault; three sisters, Freda Derringer, Lillian Elizabeth DeVault and Ruth Klingler; and a stepbrother, Carl Derringer.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The Rev. David Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Ada.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Otterbein-Cridersville Benevolent Care Fund or the charity of the donor's choice.
