Women play key role

LIMA — In January of 1988, the Lima Rotary Club welcomed its first female member, Dr. Susan Hubbell, followed in May of that year by Rose Marie Duffy.

Since then women have since made key contributions to Rotary, serving on the Lima Rotary Board as well as the Lima Rotary Foundation Board.

In 1995, Leslie Rigali was the first of the club’s three female presidents. During her year-long term, the Lima Rotary Club was awarded the Rotary International President’s Award for Peace, Love and Understanding for its commitment to and action in support of international work through our involvement with the Group Study Exchange, the Student Exchange Program, and Medical Equipment and Supplies Abroad (MESA).

Micki Volmer also served as a president of the Rotary Club in 2003-04, and Esther Baldridge is the current club president.
