Delaware County Prosecutor Carol O’Brien reads “Pearl H. Gray and the Bad to Good Day” by Julie Datko to pre-kindergarten students at Delaware Christian Academy pre-school. O’Brien visited the school with State Rep. Andy Brenner (R-Powell) with Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, a national, bipartisan, nonprofit anti-crime organization of nearly 5,000 police chiefs, sheriffs, prosecutors, attorneys general and other law enforcement leaders and violence survivors. It operates under the umbrella of the nonprofit Council for a Strong America. According to Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, pre-kindergarten programs impact literacy and graduation rates, ultimately preventing crime. “Education is key to overcoming poverty, and the cycle of crime I see in our courts every day,” O’Brien said. “It is critical that children have access to quality early learning opportunities that help them succeed in school and develop the skills necessary to grow into productive, contributing individuals.” Datko, author of “Pearl H. Gray and the Bad to Good Day,” is also the spokesperson for the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office.
