The Wauseon eighth grade boys basketball team won the league tournament championship on Saturday by defeating Archbold, 39-37.


Austin Rotroff hit the game winning shot with two seconds left and finished the game with 20 points. Also scoring for the team was Carter Stump, Brooks Gype, Dalton Rice, Dawson Rupp, and C.J. Moser.


Brooks Gype had seven assists while Owen Newlove, Dominick Gomez and Lincoln Schmucker also added assists. Other players for the team were Everett Bueter, Ricky Gomez and Austin McHenry. The teams final record is 14-1.


Also on Saturday, the eighth grade Lady Indians competed in the NWOAL championship game where they defeated Archbold, 37-21.


Scoring for the Indians were: Karli Penrod, Kendra Gorczyca, Bailey Wensink, Myia McLeod, Ally Tefft, Rylee Campbell, and Reagan Spadafore.


Other players for the team were Kennedy Lillich, Kama Bachman, Kate Roth, and Hannah Spadafore. They finish the season with a 13-1 record and back-to-back league titles.
