LIMA — So many think of the orchestra as something solely for adults, but the Lima Symphony Orchestra’s KidStuff Club is bringing children and the symphony together. For Elizabeth Brown, executive director of the Lima Symphony Orchestra, this program is not only vital to the orchestra in reaching the next generation, but it’s also great for the children.

“It’s a wonderful program for the orchestra and the community because it allows the orchestra to interact with kids in an extremely relaxed setting,” she said. “It’s a very informal, fun program designed to appeal to small children and introduce them to the orchestra. They could be teaching meter, beat, timing, but they do it in a fun way. We encourage after the program.”

The first of four KidStuff Club programs will take place on Saturday at the Lima Library and will take about a half hour. This Saturday’s theme is “American as Apple Pie.” Children will get to see the players and instruments up close while enjoying familiar music written here in the United States.

“It’s all familiar music,” Brown said. “We’re starting out with ‘The Pink Panther.’ We’ll do ‘O Susanna.’ We’ll be doing some Scott Joplin, so even though this is classical music, it’s music that’s very accessible.”
