LIMA — A Lima man in custody after a fatal stabbing Wednesday night was a roommate living with Katie M. Mills and her boyfriend, according to a Facebook post from her daughter on LimaOhio.com.
The Lima Police Department responded to a call of a stabbing at 650 N. Elizabeth St. at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday with the perpetrator still present. When they arrived, they located Mills, 45, who sustained multiple stab wounds.
Mills was transported to a local hospital, where she died, according to a press release from the LPD.
The officers also encountered a suspect, later identified as Loyal D. Johnson Jr., 68, who they took into custody after a brief physical struggle.
“Johnson was conclusively determined to be the person that inflicted the wounds on Mills,” according to a press release from the LPD’s Det. Kent Miller.
Johnson was taken to the Allen County Jail and is expected to be formally charged today. He faces an arraignment hearing at 2 p.m. on a murder charge in Lima Municipal Court.
“My mom’s boyfriend is not the one responsible for her murder,” Katarina Marie Mills wrote on LimaOhio.com. “There was a roommate living with them, and he is the person who is responsible.”
Police also determined Johnson has resided on and off in the area for the past 20 years, using multiple assumed identities. His most recent false identity used the name Frank E. Vovillia.
Miller did not return repeated calls seeking additional information about the incident Thursday.
