Lima Senior (7-5, 3-3 Three Rivers Athletic Conference) at Findlay (9-3, 4-1 TRAC), girls basketball

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Lima Senior is coming off a hard-fought 60-58 victory over Elida in a non-conference match-up this past weekend. Indiya Benjamin and Stacia Allen each scored 18 points for the Spartans. On the campaign, Benjamin is averaging 16.5 points, while Allen is averaging 14.2. Rion Thompson is scoring 11.9 per outing.

As a team, the Spartans are scoring 60.7 points, while yielding 55.1.

Findlay lost on the road to Celina on Tuesday, 68-51. Nicole Muehl led Findlay with 22 points. Christina McQueen and Taylor Stanfield added 12 and 11 points, respectively for the Trojans. The loss to Celina snapped a two-game winning streak for Findlay.

Odds and ends: Lima Senior needs to get off its recent skid in the TRAC. After winning its first three conference games, the Spartans have lost three consecutive conference contests.

Van Wert (6-3, 2-0 Western Buckeye League) at Elida (7-3, 2-0 WBL), boys basketball

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Van Wert defeated Kenton last Friday, 72-57, to improve to 2-0 in the WBL. A.J. Smith led the Cougars and all scorers with 28 points, including three 3-pointers. Joey Hurless and Kyle Keber each added 10 points for Van Wert. Van Wert lost to Fort Wayne Carroll on Tuesday night in a non-conference tilt, 45-41. Hurless led the Cougars with 11 points and Smith had 10.

On the season, Van Wert is scoring 50.6, while giving up 46.8.

Elida is coming off a tough 55-50 loss to Liberty-Benton. Dakota Mathias led Elida with 22 points. Mathias has been the leading scorer in the area this season, averaging 28.4 points per game. He is shooting 40 percent behind the arc and 56 percent from the floor. Mathias also averages 8.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists. However, when teams key on Mathias too much, then Aric Thompson will hit shots from the perimeter. Thompson is averaging 9.7 points, while hitting 43 percent of his shots behind the 3-point line.

On the season, Elida is scoring 61.8, while allowing 54.1.

Odds and ends: Neither team can afford a league loss. This has historically been a hard-fought battle whenever these two teams meet.

Spencerville (5-3) at Bath (8-2), boys basketball

When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday

After starting the season with three consecutive losses, Spencerville has reeled off five straight wins. The Bearcats are coming off a 77-33 blowout victory over Allen East. Spencerville had three players score in double figures against the Mustangs. Ben Bowers led the Bearcats with 19 points, including three 3-pointers. Zach Goecke scored 17, including five shots behind the arc. Derek Goecke added 10 for Spencerville.

Bath is coming off an impressive 66-32 win over Wapakoneta. Logan Rockhold led Bath with 18 points, while Taren Sullivan had 11. Bath’s defensive pressure helped force 21 Wapakoneta turnovers.

On the season, Bath is averaging 67.3 at the offensive end, while giving up 49.5.

Odds and ends: This will be an interesting nonconference matchup between two teams that like to get after it on the defensive end.
