LIMA — A Main Street restaurant will have a fourth chance next month.
Smacky’s Famous Fried Chicken and Barbecue will open Nov. 8 at the 629 S. Main St. spot that once housed Church’s Chicken and two other restaurants before.
The business is being opened by Project Genesis, a project of Grace Church Worldwide Ministries. The church has launched a variety of businesses — including the Kristy’s Restaurant that did business out of the same address — aimed at creating job opportunities for young people in the city.
“The idea is to development business opportunities and train and educate young people and others who need work and experience,” spokeswoman Kristen Fails said.
The business will begin with six employees, Fails said. The menu will offer fried chicken, pulled pork and other barbecue offerings and a variety of sides.
“Right now, there are a lot of pizza places in this part of town. We need a place you can go for lunch or dinner, sit down and get a full meal,” Fails said.
The location once housed an Arby’s restaurant. Church’s Chicken opened a franchise there in 2006, leasing the building from Grace Church. The Church’s closed in 2007 and the building has been vacant since.
