AARON F. LAYMAN, 88, of Modesto, Calif., formerly of Gomer, died Feb. 2, 2005, in Modesto.
He was born May 7, 1916, near Gomer to Irvin and Mary Miller Layman, who preceded him in death. On July 10, 1937, he married Mary Jane Balsbaugh, who survives. They were married for more than 67 years.
Mr. Layman retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 24 years and had farmed until 1960. He was a longtime member of Ash Grove Old German Baptist Church, near Elida. In 1945, he and his family moved to California, where he served as a deacon in the Old German Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Gomer High School. He was the fifth of 11 children.
Survivors also include five children, Juanita (Lester) Grover and Blanche (Charlie) Moore, both of Modesto, Calif., Robert (Barbara) Layman of Dayton, Suzanne (Gary) Cipponeri of Tucson, Ariz., and John (Betty) Layman of Modesto, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Layman of Phillipsburg, Philip (Helen) Layman of Modesto, Calif., and Oral Layman of Chicago; and two sisters, Margaret (Marion "Bud") Buckles and Virginia (Louis) Forney, both of Lima.
Services and burial were held Feb. 6 in Wood Colony Cemetery, near Modesto, Calif.
